Olive Leaf and Heart Medication

Question:
Can this be taken with amlodipine, lipitor, xarelto and sotalol? I wondered about side effects.

Answer:
You would have to ask your doctor. Olive leaf extract will change the effects these drugs have on you, either increasing or decreasing them.

You would have to enter into a program slowly increasing the olive leaf dosage and decreasing the dosage of the other drugs as appropriate. Your doctor would need to monitor this process as he knows your particular situation and what to monitor for your safety. You also need to know it is working for you.

Atrial Fibrillation

by Tina
(Texas)

Question:
Can Olive Leaf help with AFIB?
On two types of blood pressure meds and have slight AFIB.
Will it help with eczema?

Answer:
In his book "Olive Leaf Extract" Dr. Morton Walker on pg.80 gives a convincing testimonial regarding atrial fibrillation and also quotes researcher Victor Petkov;
"the iridoid oleuropein isolated from olive leaves is a promising natural substance for bringing high blood pressure to normal, causing a dilating effect in constricted arteries, and straightening out irregular heartbeats as in arrhythmias causing atrial fibrillation."

Ref: Petkov,V. "Plants with hypotensive, antiatheromatous and coronarodilatating action" American Journal of Chinese Medicine VII(3):197-236, 1979.

Remember to discuss it with your doctor before taking olive leaf extract with blood pressure medication.

With regard to eczema, if you do a search on the site using "eczema" as a search term it will bring up the information I have available as well as a testimonial.

Adjunctive therapy?
by: Terence

Possibly the best way to approach this would be to consider using Olive Leaf Extract as a complement to her other meds to start with.

She could start with olive leaf tea, simply as a pleasant drink - not too strong. She should tell her doctor about it so the results can be monitored.
Even a gradual reduction in the meds is good news.
If there are no adverse effects, she could move on to pure olive leaf capsules (not a concentrated extract) and monitor the effects etc.

Olive leaf extract, standardized, may be a safe alternative for some people but "proven reliability" could not be claimed due to insufficient human testing. It would have to be proven in each individual case.

Wife has arteries blocked with cholesterol that caused triple bi-pass surgery. She has been on blood thinners, and all the meds that keep her alive. Research to date makes a mockery of the meds program she is now committed to. Cannot get her to consider a change. With a strong heart and weak arteries is "olive leaf extract" a safe alternative with historic proven reliability?

Blockage of the artery and olive leaves.

by sidra
(pakistan)

I would like to know if olive leaf capsules help in clearing the blockage of arteries?

Answer:

If you look at the cardiovascular section on the "General benefits" page you will find a description of the benefits related to arteries.
While olive leaf is great for prevention, it may also help with cleaning up of the arterial walls and the reduction of inflammation.
I do not know of any specific human trials to prove this but if your doctor is happy it is worth a try.
